References and Notes
Acta Via Serica uses the Chicago Manual of Styles’ two systems of source citation:
the Author-Date Reference system for Social Science articles the Notes and Bibliograph system by Art and Humanities.
Author-Date Reference system uses parenthetical citations in the text to reference the source author’s last name and the year of publication. Each citation corresponds to an entry on a References page that concludes the document. The Notes and Bibliography system uses numbered footnotes at the bottom of the page. This corresponds to a fuller citation on a Bibliography page that concludes the document. Main words are capitalized in article and book title.

Instructions for Book Reviewers

As an author of a book review for our journal, you have the option of selecting a book from our collection on our website or suggesting a book that falls within the subject area of our journal. Please note that all suggested books must have been published within the last two years. If you select a title from our collection, you are entitled to a complimentary copy of the book, either in electronic format or hardcover. Authors must contact the journal for editorial confirmation before beginning the review. Our team will provide you with a detailed list of instructions to assist you with writing the review.

In your review, you will need to provide a comprehensive examination of the book, paying particular attention to key content or methodological issues. In addition, your review should include an assessment of the book’s position in its field, a comparison with other books on similar topics, and an evaluation of its strengths, weaknesses, and potential value. We urge authors to use clear and concise language and to keep to an approximate word count of 1,000 words. Texts exceeding 1,100 words will not be considered for publication in our journal and will be returned to the author.

We recommend that authors familiarize themselves with the style and requirements of our journal by reading our previously published reviews to facilitate their work. Please submit your full review in a Word document as an email attachment (actaviaserica@kmu.ac.kr), without an abstract or keywords.

If you write a book review for our journal, you agree not to republish the review elsewhere. However, after the review is published, authors are permitted to post their reviews on personal blogs or websites as long as appropriate credit to our journal is included.

Please note that submission of a book review does not guarantee eventual acceptance. Submissions that do not meet our requirements and quality standards will be rejected. Acceptance of a book review is generally dependent on the completion of major or minor revisions by the author.
